A notice at a Washington supermarket describes a nationwide recall of eggs, August 23, 2010.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration commissioner on Monday said there may be more recalls of eggs in the salmonella outbreak and the agency did not yet know how the eggs and chickens were contaminated.MBT shoes
"We don't know exactly how the contamination got into the chicken population, into the egg population, and we're not yet fully sure the extent of the recall that will be necessary to protect consumers," FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg said on ABC's "Good Morning America."

Her comments came after federal regulators on Friday said a second Iowa egg farm, Hillandale Farms of Iowa, voluntarily recalled eggs as part of a U.S. salmonella outbreak that is linked to almost 300 illnesses across the United States.
The Hillandale recall involves 170 million eggs, said Julie DeYoung, a company spokeswoman.
The other potential source is Iowa egg producer Wright County Egg, which recalled 380 million eggs last week.
That brings the total recall to 550 million eggs that were distributed in 22 states.
"We're continuing to investigate aggressively to determine the exact source of the contamination," Hamburg said on NBC's "Today" show.
"As we move forward with the recall, we may see some additional sub-recalls over the next couple of days, maybe even weeks as we better understand the sort of network of distribution of these eggs that are potentially contaminated," she said.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A district court issued a preliminary injunction on Monday stopping federal funding of human embryonic stem cell research, in a slap to the Obama administration's new guidelines on the sensitive issue.jordan shoes
U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth granted the injunction because he found that the doctors who challenged the policy would likely succeed because U.S. law blocked federal funding of embryonic stem cell research if the embryos were destroyed.
"(Embryonic stem cell) research is clearly research in which an embryo is destroyed," Lamberth wrote in a 15-page ruling. The Obama administration could appeal his decision or try to rewrite the guidelines to comply with U.S. law.NFL jerseys

NEW POLICY
As one of his first acts after taking office, Obama overturned that decision and the NIH set up a careful process for deciding which batches of human embryonic stem cells could be used by federally funded researchers.
The new guidelines do not allow the use of federal dollars to create the stem cells but do allow researchers to work with them if they are made by another lab.
Dr. James Sherley of Boston Biomedical Research Institute and Theresa Deisher of Washington-based AVM Biotechnology, who both work with adult stem cells and oppose the use of human embryonic stem cells, filed the original suit saying the guidelines violated the law and would harm their work by increasing competition for limited federal funding.MLB jerseys
"The Obama administration has attempted to skirt the law by arguing that they are only funding research after the embryos are destroyed," said Charmaine Yoest, head of the Americans United for Life group. "Today's sensible ruling reconfirms what we already knew, that administration policy is in violation of the law."
But Lisa Hughes, president of The Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research, called such opinions "ideologically driven".
"Today's Federal District Court injunction halting federal funding for human embryonic stem cell research is a blow to the hopes of millions of patients and their families suffering from fatal and chronic diseases and disorders," she said in a statement.
Lamberth said the injunction would not seriously harm researchers who focus on human embryonic stem cells because it would preserve the status quo and not interfere with their ability to get private funding.
"By finding that there could be harm to adult stem cell researchers if embryonic stem cell work gets funding, this judge opens the door for every scientist who ever has a grant request rejected on the merits to sue the federal government," the American Society for Reproductive Medicine said in a statement.

HOUSTON (Reuters) - A federal judge on Wednesday rejected the U.S. government's request to dismiss an industry lawsuit challenging its deepwater oil and gas drilling moratorium, dealing another blow to the Obama administration.
Hornbeck Offshore Services Inc and other drilling companies sued the administration on June 7 after it first ordered a halt to deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico following BP Plc's well rupture that killed 11 workers and caused the world's worst offshore oil spill.
As a result of Louisiana-based Hornbeck's lawsuit, U.S. District Court Judge Martin Feldman in New Orleans blocked implementation of the drilling ban on June 22.
The Obama administration then issued a reworked second drilling moratorium and asked that the Hornbeck lawsuit be thrown out because the first ban was no longer relevant.
But in his 20-page ruling on Wednesday, Feldman said the administration's new moratorium offered "no substantial changes" from the first one, and denied the motion to dismiss the Hornbeck lawsuit.[color=#0066cc]ed hardy clothing[/color]
The original moratorium, which banned drilling below 500 feet for six months, was put on hold because Feldman found that the administration had failed to properly weigh the economic impact it would have on the industry and the surrounding communities.
Hornbeck and the other companies also had questioned whether the Obama administration, through the Interior Department which oversees and regulates offshore drilling, could rescind the original moratorium, which was blocked by the court, and issue a second one.[color=#800080]louboutin shoes[/color]
Feldman ruled that while the Interior Department could do so, he said the department had failed to follow proper procedures by seeking permission from the court since the original moratorium had been blocked.
A Justice Department spokeswoman said the department was reviewing the decision.

The Obama administration has defended its moratorium plans as necessary to provide the time needed to ensure that exploratory drilling was proceeding safely in light of the BP spill, which began in April.
